Oh Scrap! : More Scrap Blocks from Quilting Is More Fun Than Housework

 Happy Valentine's Day to everyone!

I have been slowly working through more of my scrap blocks for the month of February.  I realized when I was writing this post that I forgot to write about my finish this week.  I guess you will have to wait a bit to see it next Friday.

I had previously made the yellow blocks for my Half Rectangular Triangles (HRTs).  So no progress on this project for February.

I also previously made my postage stamp blocks in yellow.  But when I had my blue and brown scrap bins out, I came across some ...

And Now There are Eight from Quilting Is More Fun Than Housework

Did you see that Angela over at SoScrappy is hosting another Rainbow Scrap Challenge QAL this year?  It is called Full Stop.

Of course I decided to join in - so that means I now have 8 RSC quilts going on this year.

Sigh....

I already have my pink scrap bin out so it took me no time at all to cut the pieces I need for the Hashtag block that was released for this month.  I finished up two blocks already.  I decided to use the same background fabric throughout the quilt.  It is hard to see from these photos ...

Oh Scrap! : More Scrap Blocks from Quilting Is More Fun Than Housework

Winterizing my gardens have taken most of my time this week, but I did get a few more scrappy blocks finished.  I am still working through my yellow scraps for my Rainbow Scrap Challenge projects.

I finished up my 14 yellow HRT blocks.  These measure 4 x  8".  I did decide to make all the blocks go the same direction so no diamond shapes on this quilt..

I added the yellow blocks to my design wall.

I am running out of room!  I need to move some of them around so I can add in new colors in 2021.

I ...

Oh Scrap! : More Yellow from Quilting Is More Fun Than Housework

It is hard to believe that it is almost time to stat thinking about what Rainbow Scrap Challenge blocks I am going to work on in 2021.  I have two designs that will carry over into the next year - but I always like to have 3-4 in the works.

As I was sewing up a few other yellow blocks, I decided to start some blocks using my Well-Suited Scrap Mixology pattern.  This time I went with the geese variation.  I am excited about this one - there are a ton of layouts I can play with by just rotating the blocks ...

Oh Scrap! : Red from Quilting Is More Fun Than Housework

With September here, it is time to get out my red scraps for my RSC quilts.  I am down to just 2 active projects right now so I need to start thinking about some new designs.

I dug through all of my red scraps and then my solids stash and I could only come up with three shades of red.  I am hoping in upcoming months I can find or acquire a magenta solid so I can make one more blocks.  This is a longer term project so I have lots of time.

I am using 2" squares so my ...

A Rainbow Scrap Challenge Finish from Quilting Is More Fun Than Housework

I decided to just finish up one of my Rainbow Scrap Challenge quilt.

My initial plan was to make the quilt 60 x 72" but I decided to just finish it with the 20 blocks I had completed already.  I tend to make some of my quilts a little bit too big, so this rainbow quilt will be lacking in red and yellow blocks.  I don't think anyone will mind.

The sun is so bright today, I had to snap a photo on one of my shady patios to keep the glare down as much as I could.  Sorry ...

Oh Scrap! : Log Cabin Progress from Quilting Is More Fun Than Housework

I have been making slow progress on my log cabin quilt.  Not because I haven't been actively working on it every week - but because the process of cutting and sewing all the small pieces takes a lot of time!

I did finish these two green circles this week.  They are composed of 1" and 1.5" strips.  The four log cabin blocks go together to make an 11" circle component.

A lot of time is spent digging through my scrap bins for the smallest of scraps that will work.

These two green circles meant I could finish up one ...

Oh Scrap! : A Few More Purple from Quilting Is More Fun Than Housework

Now that I have started two new Rainbow Scrap Challenge quilts, I was able to make some more purple blocks for August.

I finished up four purple Postage Stamp blocks.  Because I am using 2" squares, my blocks will finish at 9".  I was only able to find 4 shades of purple solids in my entire fabric stash...including scraps.  I certainly need to fix this!

I also finished up these 14 QSR (quarter square rectangle) blocks.  You start with a large rectangle and end up with two blocks - I will need to pick seven prints each month.  So I ...

A Once is Enough Finish from Quilting Is More Fun Than Housework

For years, I have been tucking away in a bag any pieces of fabric selvages I came across.  Most of them have been cut off backing pieces.  I am not sure why I started saving them - I guess they were just a "scrap" that I thought I could use one day.

Recently, I finally decided to do something with them.  I sorted them by color and made two 18" strips of each color.  I think I cut the selvages to a width of 5.5".

I finally finished the last two purple strips and finished up the quilt this week ...

A 2020 RSC Finish from Quilting Is More Fun Than Housework

The end of 2020 is still a long way away, but I decided to go ahead and finish up one of my Rainbow Scrap Challenge quilts.  Once I get the bulk of the blocks finished, I just can't restrain myself from finishing it up.  Not when it means crossing one off my list!

I am not sure if this block has a name.  It is just a rail fence block variation.  Each of the strips are cut at 2" x 6.5" and sewed together to create a darker pinwheel look in the center.
The bloc finishes up at ...

New Rainbow Scrap Challenge Blocks from Quilting Is More Fun Than Housework

With my two existing Rainbow Scrap Challenge projects only needing a few more blocks to complete, I decided to start some new projects.  Now I can continue to play with purple this month and make more of these newest blocks.

Yes, I have resisted far too long and I am jumping in to the Postage Stamp Party.  This project will help to use up my solid scraps/stash and the "undesirable" scraps in my bins.  I am not going with the traditional 1.5" square - instead I am cutting my squares at 2".  I read on Instagram someone referring to ...

Oh Scrap! : Rail Fence Blocks from Quilting Is More Fun Than Housework

We all knew purple was going to be the Rainbow Scrap Challenge color for August - simply because I made purple blocks last month!  Ha!!

But that is okay with me - when I had my browns out for my recent brown scrap quilt, I went ahead and cut the strips for a couple rail fence blocks.

Then I went ahead and made some yellow blocks.

A quick count of my blocks revealed I needed just two more blocks for my quilt so I snuck in a few black scraps.

One thing I have learned from the RSC is that these rainbow ...

Oh Scrap! : Selvage Progess from Quilting Is More Fun Than Housework

I found another scrappy project that needed some blue blocks made July.

I am still working on sewing up all of my saved selvages.  This last week, I worked on completing the teal/turquoise and blue strips.

I decided to put them all up on the wall.  I still have to trim them to length, finish the two purple strips and then add the background fabric.  I am so close to a finish on this one.

...and done with saving selvages in the future!

What scrappy goodness have you been working on!

Oh Scrap! : A Few Blues from Quilting Is More Fun Than Housework

I did discover a current project that needed some blue scraps this month.
So I guess I did need to get my blue bin out after all.

I needed some blue log cabin blocks that finish at 5.5" for one of my scrap quilts.

I also finished up two more pink blocks.  These are made using 1" and 1.5" strips.

I have started to put them up on one of my design wall so I can look at color placement a bit.  I am not sure if I will keep the squiggle effect or make them into circle ...

Oh Scrap! : More RSC Blocks from Quilting Is More Fun Than Housework

This week I am still protesting the color blue and playing with more purple scraps.

This week I finished up these three Rainbow Scrap Challenge blocks.  I need to do a count on these blocks to see how many more I need.  It is time to get this one up on a design wall and maybe finish it up.

I am finally feeling somewhat productive and want to see some finishes!
What are you working on?

Oh Scrap! : Nope from Quilting Is More Fun Than Housework

I so appreciate the work Angela over at SoScrappy does to keep the Rainbow Scrap Challenge going.  But there are sometimes when her ideas and my ideas clash.  Spending a third month on the color blue just doesn't work with my scraps.  So I am going to take a sideways step on the colorwheel and just pretend that the RSC color for July is purple!

In the few days of July, I have already finished my three blocks for my rail fence variation quilt.  I need just seven more blocks - I am going to go with three gold, two ...

Oh Scrap! : More Log Cabin Blocks from Quilting Is More Fun Than Housework

Even though this month is supposed to be all about pink scraps, I decided to get out my blue scrap bins and make a few more log cabin blocks.

I pulled some navy, teal and medium blue shades for my next three circles.

I am trying to focus on using a lot of my print fabrics so each block has a lot of interest.

Here are all the blocks I have finished so far.  The purple circles is 22" wide, the blue ones will finish at 15" I think and the pink ones will make 11" circles.  Now I need ...

Oh Scrap! : Colorful Chains from Quilting Is More Fun Than Housework

I can't believe another week has already gone by.  Where does the time go?!

Most of my sewing has been occurring late at night.  I did get a chance to finish up three more RSC blocks in pink.  It is hard to see in this (late night) photo but I chose mostly hot and dark pinks for these blocks.

I didn't use any light shades of pink because I was afraid they would stand out - or maybe I should say fade away.  Here are all the blocks to date.  I am going for 30 blocks so I think ...

Oh Scrap! : Pink from Quilting Is More Fun Than Housework

Pretty pink is the RSC color for June.  Boy was I happy to see that!

Usually once a color is chosen for the month, I start the cutting process for all of my Rainbow Scrap Challenge quilts.  Then I place all the pieces next to my sewing machine so I can sew up the blocks all month long.

This week I focused on sewing up six log cabin blocks for my newest project.  I am not sure how they will fit into the quilt but at this early stage, I am just making blocks.

These blocks were made with 1 ...
